I'm going to start to talk a little about my education and my background and then I'd like to specify my work experience and my skill in relation to this position. OK! I have a background in geophysics. I'm a geophysical engineer. It's a degree that I got in my country, in Venezuela. And then, in France, I did a master's degree in complementary computer studies. Education

La economía de mi país ha estado dominada históricamente por la industria de los hidrocarburos; actualmente Venezuela cuenta con las mayores reservas probadas de petróleo. Este panorama orientó mis intereses, y así mis estudios, hacia el campo de la exploración petrolera. Realicé estudios superiores en la Universidad Simón Bolívar, una institución educativa con alto prestigio en carreras científicas. Obtuve el título de Ingeniero Geofísicos y seguidamente realcé una Maestría en Ciencias de la Tierra (Geociencias aplicadas al petróleo) en la misma universidad. Además, siempre he tenido gran afinidad por la computación (particularmente por la programación) y por la física pura.

En mi opinión, una buena forma de combinar mis intereses profesionales, ha sido dedicándome al procesamiento y modelado sísmico. Así, mi labor ha estado estrechamente relacionada a la industria petrolera sin olvidar mis otros intereses. En lo que respecta al Modelado Sísmico, tengo considerable experiencia en trazado de rayos y ecuación de onda por diferencias finitas utilizando los programas del paquete open-source Seismic Unix. El manejo de dicho software se basa en la programación de Shell Scripts, labor que he tenido que desempeñar en mis dos tesis de grado (Ingeniería y Maestría) y en diversos proyectos de investigación. He además programado códigos de mayor complejidad para facilitar tareas a través de los comandos del Seismic Unix o para desarrollar aplicaciones en Scilab (también software libre) o Matlab. En Procesamiento Sísmico tengo experiencia con Seismic Unix y utilizando los programas de CGGVeritas (SAGE, Vega, Tornado) durante el desarrollo de mi tesis de Maestría en el centro de procesamiento de CGGVeritas, sede caracas. Allí, realicé una secuencia de procesamiento sobre data sísmica 3D (incluyendo migración en tiempo y profundidad) y sobre data sintética 2D

Ingenieria Geofisica

Geophysics is a discipline that uses different areas of knowledge, such as physics, mathematics, and geology to study the internal constitution and history of the Earth. The Geophysical engineering career at Simón Bolívar University is based on: A training in seismic exploration methods (acquisition, processing, inversion, and interpretation) and its direct application to the oil industry. The program also includes a basic training in gravimetric, magnetic and electrical exploration methods Some courses in geology. But the career is oriented towards oil exploration because Venezuela is an oil-producing country.

La Ingeniería Geofísica aplica distintas áreas del conocimiento tales como la Física, las Matemáticas y la Geología, al estudio de la constitución interna e historia de la Tierra. La formación del Ingeniero Geofísico en la Universidad Simón Bolívar se cimenta en: Una preparación en métodos de exploración sísmica (adquisición, procesamiento, inversión e interpretación) y sus aplicaciones directas a la industria petrolera. Una preparación básica en métodos de exploración gravimétrica, magnética, y eléctrica Una cadena de cursos en Geología que sirven al futuro ingeniero en sus labores de interprete y geointegrador. Ejemplos de aplicaciones de la Ingeniería Geofísica: En la exploración petrolera, los métodos de prospección sísmica permiten detectar las trampas que sirven de receptáculos a los hidrocarburos a profundidades que por otras vías sería imposible determinar. En la exploración minera los métodos gravimétricos y magnéticos permiten la evaluación del suelo y del subsuelo con el fin de ubicar y/o descubrir, ampliar y redefinir yacimientos minerales que no son visibles en superficie, además de que por estas mismas vías es posible establecer zonas de recursos minerales económicamente explotables. En la Ingeniería Civil la Geofísica permite estudiar las condiciones del subsuelo para el emplazamiento de obras de envergadura (presas, viaductos, edificios, carreteras etc.) y en la Agronomía permite definir posibles acuíferos utilizables ya sea para riego o para consumo humano.

I got a master's degree in Petroleum geosciences because It was focused in oil exploration... and I wanted to specialize in this area. During this master, I took courses related to the oil exploration process. Creo que hoy en día la geofísica de exploración y producción debe enfocarse en pequeños detalles. Esto porque la exploración de hidrocarburos ya no requiere de un campo gigante para ser economicamente rentable, actualmente pequeñas acumulaciones pueden dar lugar a importantes beneficios para las compañías, pero para ello es indispensable ser detallista en los diversos pasos de exploración y producción. Por ejemplo, el campo de estudio de mi trabajo de maestría estaba compuesto por pequeñas acumulaciones; y en mi trabajo se trata un problema relacionado a la deformación de los reflectores a causa de variaciones laterales de velocidad, el trabajo concluye que estos problemas, podrían ser vitales para una apropiada cuantificación de las reservas. Complementary Computer Studies

I have always had a strong interest in Computer Sciences. In fact, when I start my studies in the university, I had to choose between Computer Sciences and Geophysics. During my studies in geophysics, I took courses in Fortran and C programming, and in Linux System Administration... and I had to program many times in Matlab (for example)... and thus I acquired computer skills. The master's programme included courses of: Algorithms and Programming. I took courses in C programming, java and SQL We also received a training in database management Linux systems administration Networks administration. Those are the areas I really appreciated, and in these areas is that I have my best computer skills, but there were other courses of course, like: VRML: Virtual Reality Modeling Language is a standard file format for representing 3-dimensional (3D) interactive vector graphics, XML: Extensible Markup Language is a markup language that defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. PHP programming Yes, they were basic courses because it was a one year master... and it was a master oriented to not computer professionals. But even if we were not computer professionals we had all computer skill. Because it was a requirement to enroll in that master. So the the courses had a good level I think so.

WikiVox is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to create a website (a wiki) for the debate of social and political problems. They want to create a discussion method capable to generate, at some point in the debate, an article with precise suggestions, in order to contribute to the solution to the problem.

It was a very nice experience. I liked very much the philosophy of the project.

and I think that working in a small organization was positive at this point in my career Because I had responsibilities that I am sure I would not have had in a big company; that's why I think that I learned a lot from them.

And my technical work was to design the website. For this, we used free software (Wikipedia Software).

So, specifically, I had to administrate a Linux Web server (to create a database, to install programs). I had to program in PHP. I had to install and configure many extensions to meet the requirements of the project:

• We had to install a LanguageSelector and translate the content into 5 languages: French, English, Spanish, German and Arabic.
• We had to install an extension to make donations (I mean to pay online). The payment gateway for implementing a donation service.
• An extension to categorize pages.
• An extension to uploading files.
• And many others.

30.000 per year That's what I'm asking in Ireland, because I know the salary range. But I’m not sure about the salaries in other countries.

Why should we hire you

The most important thing is that I have the technical competence for this job. I have analyzed in detail the job description and I'm sure my competences match with the required profile from your company. Also, because the position match perfectly with my professionals and personnels goals, so that's why I feel very motivated; and I'm sure my motivation will be a plus for the work performance. Because I'm sure that I won't be problems working hard in this position because I really like what I have to do.

I'm glad to say that I'm a very flexible and adaptable candidate. I believe my ability to speak three languages -English, French and Spanish- -Three of the most widely spoken languages- make me a flexible candidate that can be easily relocate and can participate in international projects. Because I think in nowadays, languages are very important, and specially here in Europe. Also, my experience living abroad -in France and now in Ireland. This proves that I'm adaptable. it's not evident to live in another country. It's something that you have to have lived, to say that you are able to adapt. I'm really convinced that this adaptability is a real competence (asset) for many companies in in nowadays… (because (Due) to the large number of international agreements…)

My computer skills make me a flexible candidate, but also.. and another thing for which I consider that I'm a good candidate it's because for this position you're looking for somebody with 1 or 2 years of experiences in Linux; so maybe a fresh graduate. And even if I've been working exclusively as a Linux Engineer only for some years, I already have a career as a Geophysical Engineer, and throughout my experience as an Engineer I have developed skills that are also very important in any position (I mean, apart from the technical skills): - I have excellent problem solving skills - I have good math skills - I have good communication skills (interpersonal communication). And especially writing skills. I'm really confident writing memos and reports. I really think that I have skills to explain in a easy way some technical problem (issue). - I know how to manage my time to prioritize my activities. Se manejar mi tiempo y priorizar mis actividades.

Because we know that in a job there are a lot of thing apart from the technical issues, that are also very important in the job performance and I'm convinced that's the difference between a fresh graduate and me. I believe that I can offer you a better performance (in a general sense) than a fresh graduate.

Desde que me mudé a Dublín es como el comienzo de un nuevo ciclo y es por ello que me siento muy motivado. Estoy un una muy buena etapa de mi vida desde el punto de vista emocional y con una actutud muy positiva.

Lo más importante es que yo tengo las competencias para este cargo, Yo he analizado a fondo la descripción del cargo y estoy seguro de que cuento con los requisitos para ocupar esta posición. Cuel es tu defecto - What is your greatest weakness

I am by nature very methodical and (perfectionist, meticulous, detail-oriented) and curious, so, some people say that sometimes, I can take more time than other people I can be slow when starting a project; I means it's only when I have to work in something new, that I have to learn in the moment; because I consider that it's important to have good bases. I think that good bases are very important to advance correctly, in a good way. So I usually prefer to take my time at the beginning.. (but after finding my method, I can be very fast and effective). that's my nature.. but I also know that can be important to adapt to the pace of the team, and I'm able to do it. Actually.. that was when I was working in research that I received this criticism, where you have to work autonomously without any supervision, but in a company there is always a supervision, and I'm able to adapt to the pace of a team; I don't have any problems working in team. Because when I worked in companies, I hadn't problems with that. But that doesn't mean that I can't work without supervision. Actually I also like to work autonomously, because I like to manage my time.

J'ai des problèmes pour prendre des reculs.

Soy muy metódico y detallista, en ocasiones cuando trabajo en autonomía sin ninguna supervisión puedo tardar más de lo previsto, pero trabajando en equipo nunca he presentado ese tipo de problemas pues me adapto fácilmente al ritmo del equipo.

The time management for deadlines. I thinks because in my two first professionals experiences I have worked in a research unit, and in this case, generally there isn't strict deadlines. But in my last possition, as it was in a company, I realised that a better time management was needed, so I did my best to improve my organisation skills.

I am equally comfortable working as a member of a team and independently. I have proven experience working as a team player at CGGVeritas and in a R&D Unit. I have also worked independently during my experience as an academic assistant at Simón Bolívar University and in my thesis projects.

I fell good working with other people. During my experience working as a team player I have never had problems to communicate, to exchange informations. They were all good experiences.

I fact in my last position I worked within a team and it went very well. As we were a small team, we had to exchange information all the time.

And I have experience as a team player not only in a professional environment. Also, I have always combined my activities with sports. I was a member of the volleyball team of my state when I was a child and member of the Water polo team at Simón Bolívar University, where I attended at 5 national university games. And I think they are also good examples to prove my skills to work as a team player.

I have also worked as a Swimming instructor in an elementary school, so I have worked with children.

Actually, I continue playing sports with friends and I go to the gym three times a week.

Tuve que hacer el link entre la parte geofísica y la parte computacional durante mi experiencia en la unidad de R&D. Tenía que hablar con los geofísicos y expertos petroleros y luego hacer entender los requerimientos a los informáticos para la programación de las aplicaciones.

Relocation

My experience living in France and in Ireland, has made me keen to continue living abroad and accordingly (and actually) I would be happy to relocate anywhere in the world, and would consider it a privilege to do so.

I believe my ability to speak three languages -English, French and Spanish- and my computer skills make me a flexible candidate who would be well suited to work in both the geophysics and IT sectors. I further feel that the breadth of my skills would be a real asset to potential employers.

Actuellement, je veux avoir une expérience professionnelle à l'étranger. Ainsi, je voudrais trouver un emploi en tant qu'ingénieur géophysicien et de préférence dans le domaine de la modélisation et le traitement des données sismiques pour l'exploration pétrolière. J'aimerais poursuivre ma carrière au sein d'une entreprise en Europe ou bien encore dans une autre partie du monde. Je pourrai ainsi apprendre une nouvelle langue et découvrir une nouvelle culture. Je suis convaincu que cette expérience sera très enrichissante professionnellement mais aussi du point de vue personnel. Après ces expériences, je retournerai au Venezuela pour peut-être devenir professeur.

I think stress an pressure are often related with the charge of work and deadlines. When it happens to me I try to rank tasks depending on their priority (Prioritize my activities).

I think it's when they are involving other peoples in the team, because it represent a risk not only for me but also for other peoples.

Para mi el éxito se logra, en primer lugar, haciendo lo que uno le a uno le gusta hacer. Yo creo que eso es vital para alcanzar el éxito, uno tiene que sentirse bien con lo que hace. Ahora bien, para poder desempeñarse bien en su trabajo, creo que es importante fijarse metas, fijarse objetivos y trabajar para alcanzarlos; y para esto hay que tener constancia, yo creo que la constancia y la dedicación son valores muy importantes para lograr nuestro objetivos y así en éxito. El éxito se logra cuando uno alcanza sus objetivos personales.

First, I've always thought that success come from doing what we love to do. I'm convinced that we must to fell good about what we do. Now to have a good performance in our job I believe that it is very important to set goals, to set objectives, and to realize these objectives, we must be consistent, we must to dedicated to come true our goals. And it's that I believe that success come realizing, little by little, our personal goals.

Your travel experience, study abroad and living in other countries

I really enjoy traveling, I like very much to know other cultures, to meet peoples from different countries. One particular think I love it's to know a culture through its food... I really like to try food from different countries. In general I think that living in another country(abroad) is a very enriching experience, not only because you can learn another language, but also because meeting people from other cultures makes you an open-minded person. I think I have learned a lot living abroad... and I enjoy that experience. My experience living in France has made me keen to continue living abroad and accordingly I would be happy to relocate anywhere in the world, and would consider it a privilege to do so.
